The gateway to the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi and the authentic Sahara experience.
Welcome to Merzouga
Merzouga is a small Saharan village in southeastern Morocco, famous worldwide as the gateway to Erg Chebbi, a vast sea of golden sand dunes reaching up to 150 meters high. The dunes of Erg Chebbi are among the most iconic landscapes in North Africa, attracting travelers seeking authentic desert experiences including camel treks, overnight desert camps, sunrise and sunset viewpoints, and 4x4 excursions across the sand. The village itself sits at the edge of the dunes and is home to a mix of Amazigh and Gnawa communities. The nearby village of Khamlia is known for its Gnawa musical traditions, offering visitors a chance to experience centuries-old spiritual music. Merzouga serves as the eastern anchor of Morocco's desert tourism circuit, connected by scenic road routes through the Dades Valley, Todra Gorge, and the Ziz Valley from Marrakech, Fes, and Errachidia respectively.
