Ifrane National Park Inaugurates 181 km Equestrian Trail Network for Sustainable Rural Tourism
The Fès-Meknès region has inaugurated a 181 km network of marked equestrian trails inside Ifrane National Park — the first project of its kind in the region, aimed at boosting rural and ecological tourism in the Middle Atlas.
On Friday 22 May 2026, the Fès-Meknès region officially inaugurated a 181-kilometre network of marked equestrian trails within Ifrane National Park, the first structured horse-riding tourism project in the region.
Developed between 2020 and 2024 with a budget of approximately 1.4 million MAD, the trail network is the result of a decentralised cooperation partnership between the Fès-Meknès Region and the French Centre-Val de Loire Region, co-financed by Morocco's Direction Générale des Collectivités Territoriales and the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
The project includes trail marking and signage, directional panels, horse shelters, welcome and service points for riders, as well as territorial diagnostics, professional training for local operators, and the development of a regional equestrian tourism strategy.
The inauguration was attended by Abdelouahed El Ansari (President of the Regional Council), François Bonneau (President of Centre-Val de Loire), Carine Foeller Viallon (Consul General of France in Fès), Frédéric Bouix (President of the French Equestrian Federation and the International Federation of Equestrian Tourism), as well as representatives from ANEF, local tourism authorities, and equestrian clubs.
The 181 km network is located entirely within Ifrane National Park (125,000 ha), one of Morocco's most important biodiversity reserves — home to the Middle Atlas cedar forests, valleys, lakes, and the Barbary macaque.
⚠️ Practical note: While the trails are marked and open, detailed booking information (operator contacts, horse rental, pricing, guided tours) is not yet publicly documented. Travellers interested in horseback riding in Ifrane should contact local equestrian clubs or the Ifrane provincial tourism office for current arrangements.
